English Skills - Adjectives
We have been writing some sentences for grammar using adjectives to explain how we think our character felt at different parts of our story.
This afternoon we are going to up-level our diary entries from Christophe's Story. We will use some of the new sentences we have written in our up-levelled work.
Here is my work:

Diary Entry - Planning for Big Write
We have been planning to write a diary entry about the main character from the book we have been reading.
The book is called, 'Christophe's Story'.
We have been doing hot seating to pretend we were Christophe. We had to show empathy and say how we were feeling during different parts of the story.
Here we are practicing being Christophe.

Big Writing - Stories from other cultures
We have completed our Big Write for the week. We wrote the ending to our story from another culture. We used the book we have been reading, 'Christophe's Story', as a stimulus for our writing.
The children set the following success criteria for an ending to a story from this genre:
Must - have a problem
Should - work on their writing target
Should - refer to traditions from the country
Could - resolve the problem
The standard was excellent. We self assessed our work and our friends work against the success criteria we set.

Abacus Maths - Measuring
We have been learning how to measure in cm and mm.

For example:
11cm 5mm = 11.5cm = 115mm
Braces Bread Visit
We had a visitor from Braces Bread this morning. He talked to us about how we make bread. We also made our own bread.
Big Write - poetry
Today in our Big Write we have written poems about Cats.
We read a number of poems by Grace Nichols earlier in the week. We picked good features of these types of poems.
The features we highlighted were:
Powerful verbs
Making sure each line of the poem makes sense
Effective imagery
We set these as our success criteria for our own poems.
Here we are writing our Cat poems.
Big Write - Stories from another culture
We have been reading a book called 'Christpe's Story'. The book is about a little boy from Rwanda who is a refugee. He comes to England and tells the children in his class all about his life.
We have used this story as a stimulus to our writing. Last week we wrote a story opener and tomorrow we will write the ending to our story.
Here we are making notes for our endings.

Global Gourmet - Making Bread
This week the children have been designing and making bread after tasting a variety of bread from around the world. The children decided whether to make their bread savoury or sweet and had a variety of ingredients to choose from. The children also designed the shape of their bread. We had a lots of interesting designs including hedgehogs, snakes, birds, hearts and even Harry Styles!
We remembered to use bakers hands to avoid any unwanted germs getting on our hands after we had washed them.
The children enjoyed getting the their hands in the bowl to bring all of the ingredients together to make the dough. The children kneaded and shaped their dough according to their design, once the bread was cooked it was left to cool. Finally they decorated their bread and then got to have a taste.
The children worked incredibly hard this week both in their national tests and bread making. I am proud of all of you! Well done class 5!
